651,000 Job Losses in February

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the payroll report for February: 651,000 job losses in February, bringing the unemployment rate to 8.1%.  According to the Bureau, the job losses cut across virtually every sector of the economy:

Jobless Claims Rise to 589,000

From the WSJ:
Meanwhile, the number of U.S. workers filing new claims for state unemployment benefits soared last week to match the quarter-century high reached in December, suggesting layoffs continued unabated into the new year.
