Slate Visualizes Job Losses

This is a pretty amazing visualization - I’m always a sucker for anything that makes data come alive.  Slate takes the past couple years of employment data from the Labor department and visualizes it in this heatmap.  Watching the country change from blue to red is rather frightening.

Education: The Recession Hedge

It’s hard to process all the disconcerting news we’ve had in the past few months, but this headline in particular caught my eye: the United States economy lost 159,000 jobs in the month of September alone, which was quickly identified as the worst number of this sort in over five years.
